"Model Minority" is a song written by Rina Sawayama, which was initially intended for her debut studio album Sawayama but didn't make the final cut.

Background

"Model Minority" was conceived during the writing sessions for Sawayama's debut LP. It was first revealed during a December 2018 interview with Vulture. According to Sawayama, the song is "about the path that is paved for east Asians specifically of what you should be like when we grow up."^[1]

The song ultimately did not make the final cut on Sawayama (2020), the singer's debut studio album.
